The Monel 400 coils consist mainly of approximately 63% nickel and 28-34% copper with minute quantities of iron, manganese, carbon, and silicon. With such a distinctive composition, the coils provide excellent resistance to corrosion brought about by seawater, acids, alkalis, and steam. The alloy has high tensile strength (approximately 550 MPa), good toughness, and pitting and crevice corrosion resistance. Monel 400 retains good mechanical properties over a broad range of temperatures and is non-magnetic, so it is very flexible and appropriate for use in harsh conditions.
